On January 5, 2024, the new Organic Law on Mental Health was published in Supplement No. 471 to the Official Registry. This law introduces a series of regulations into the Ecuadorian legal framework aimed at promoting, fostering, and preventing mental well-being, recognizing mental health disorders as a public health issue.

Regarding companies that finance prepaid medical care services and insurance companies offering medical assistance coverage, this new law imposes the obligation for them to provide coverage for outpatient or hospital care, as well as prescription medication, in one or more of their plans and contracts.
